<description>yeah, we got screwed by lawyers at our closing, too We couldn't get the paralegal to call us back- to the point where i actually had to drag my ass, with baby in tow, down to the office, only to find her balancing her checkbook and was told that the world wouldn't end and people wouldn't die if I didn't get my closing on time!!!! i can tell you one person who almost died! then, she refused to do any more work on my file. i told the lawyer and he did not believe me. the guy actually had the balls to tell me that he did other types of cases at my closing! hello! would i ever give you another penny? hell, no! i later heard, from someone I berated the guy to that he had a lot of problems with the paralegal and had to fire her. hard to believe.
The good news is that we have been very happy in our home for 5 years now, so hard as it is- you just need to move past it and enjoy. and do what i do, if you hear someone is buying a house, you know exactly who to tell them not to hire!

		<description>dude.
that was horrifying. i've purchased two homes in my life and sold one. and neither was without a bump, but jesus.. never anything like that. i own a house in rome and rent an apartment in Utica. i'm going to eventually sell the house in Rome when the market stabilizes a little. I'm hoping that it goes smooth. but your story really makes me nervous about my next purchase. My friend in albany had a low interest, pre-approved, no cost mortgage agreement. he also had a deadline. his builders screwed him. the inspectors would not allow him to close until the house passed bank stipulations. long story short, missed his closing date (which was a 4 month period), cost him thousands in closing cost, fees, attorneys, etc. fired his builder, hired new people, new supplies, etc. at the beginning of this deal, he was looking to walk away with a profit from the sell of his home and a sweet deal on the new home with a no-cost closing and low interest loan, at the tune of about 45k. when it was all said and done, he had only profited about 10K and no resolution to recoup what he lost. Buying and selling homes is like a stock market and it shouldn't be. it should a basic purchase. but it won't be until we get all the bureacratic bullshit out of it; lawyers, state and federal regs, bank regs and bureacracy, and lastly, politics. i should be able to find a home, have the bank appraise it, they agree that it's worth the money, write me a check, and i hand it over to the seller with a small buyers agreement. no lawyers. no bullshit. nothing. while i understand all of the reasons that the bureacracy is in place, almost no one ever benefits from it. and the few times that someone shows their buyers agreement to a judge in court, it's not worth the hassle for the rest of us.

so sorry to hear your story bro. scary. and most of all (and i know this from experience); this was harder on your fiancee than anyone. she knows that you were mostly doing this for her and she felt horrible that it was happening and internally at times felt responsible for wanting something that she rightly deserves. but with all the bullshit, she probably wondered many times if it was worth it. it's similar to a cop beating the crap out of you and there is nothing you can do about because they're so guarded and protected by blue rules. enjoy the new home. and god bless.
