Last weekend I had a unique experience. I was on the other side of a wedding: as a guest! A great couple I worked with in radio tied the knot at a very classy ceremony in town.
Was it odd being on the other side? At first yes, but as I realized other colleagues who were also DJ’s were attending as guests, it put me at ease to realize I could have a night where I had fun and not be the guy who would critique the DJ’s every move. I said I wouldn’t be the guy who said in his mind “well I would do this etc, etc”.
I don’t get to attend many weddings as I am booked most weekends with events to play myself. As I mentioned above I decided to take a different approach with this party. I was going to have fun and catch up with people I hadn’t seen in months and years. We had a blast: enjoying delicious food, the most amazing Italian desserts and having some drinks.
It was a great night and one where I was able to see some of the challenges faced as an entertainer. I’ll discuss some of those thoughts in my next post…
