Getting To Know KTPG
Welcome to my online world! I am 32 years old, born and raised in Central New York. I grew up in Utica and moved to Holland Patent at age 13.
After graduating from Holland Patent, I ventured to Herkimer County Community College, where I studied Radio/TV broadcasting. After 2 years as a Herkimer General, I transferred to Utica College for Public Relations/Journalism. The U.C. experience was great and thru it I received my first shot at a real job: assistant to the local press director for Woodstock 99. (Yes that Woodstock that burned to the ground in Rome, NY).
It was during my college years that I got a taste of the broadcast world and began working at WOUR followed by stints in all airshifts at 97.9/105.5 KISS-FM. I spent most of my time working behind the scenes in the promotions and web world: hence the name Kenny The Promo Guy.
As a poor 20 year old college student I was busy working many part time jobs: delivering phone books, working at Mapledale Market, at the radio station and thru some odd circumstances the opportunity to become a mobile DJ came about.
Over the past 12 years I have played countless numbers of weddings, proms, school dances, fundraisers and corporate events. To some my mobile DJ business may be another part time job but I treat it as a full time business.
In April 2007 I left the radio world on a fulltime basis to take a job as an admissions counselor at Herkimer County Community College. My love of people, travel and giving back to a place that helped me get a great start are just some of the reasons I love the job at HCCC.
I still work part time at 97.9/105.5 KISS-FM. You can hear me on-air on the weekends or filling in when someone has taken a day off. Radio is still in my blood but I do not miss the drama and 17 hour work days.
